Goosebumps"Do what gives you goose bumps and do it well." Harry slouched in front of a crowd of 15 people in a tattered green hoodie and jeans he wore the day before. He stuttered a couple of times as he carefully chose American slang over his British English. "Goose bumps, right?" And then the twinkle in his eye helped me to lean back in my chair. He spoke as if he was in an AA meeting explaining all the dumb mistakes he had made. Yet, Harry had just sold his business in printing with a grand profit. He shook his head reminiscing "like this one mistake I made. I was hoping to get this contract with a major retailer and I didn't have everything in order. I did my best to see the shirt was printed with good quality and rushed it off to the company. Two years went by and I get this phone call asking me to come to their office." "Your work is good quality." the man told him. Harry smiled. "But do me a favor, and get our name right next time. QuikSilver is spelled with a k not a ck." Harry looked up at us shaking his head and waving,"I can't believe I did that, they are huge you know and I got a lot of money from them. I'm glad they were able to see my good side." It takes a good eye to see the good side. Danielle Love 2009 An Everyday American Dad
All I knew about Korea was the silk pajamas. Remenants of the war hung from our bedroom windows as curtains-navy blue wool blankets. My father was in the Air Force. When he signed his parents were concerned. It was another conflict and although planes were used in WWII, congress was not finished contemplating the use of air planes against North Korea. In this picture he was thin very thin fed on a normal military diet of powdered eggs, canned stew and canned ham. He couldn't wait to get back to the states for a home cooked meal. While he traveled from Korea to Japan to Wake Island on to California and over to New York he thought about the food, all the good foods his mother used to make and food he was hoping his nine month pregnant wife could possibly prepare. He left the plane and took a bus back to military housing. His digestive juices sprung from his glands. As he opened the trailer door he met his wife, relieved to see him and having contractions 5 minutes apart. He ignored the disappointment and grabbed the suitcase. The young couple jumped into the black Ford and sped away. Hospital noise, exhaustion and one new baby later, this soldier drove home cracked three eggs in an iron skillet, toasted two slices of bread and poured himself a tall glass of whole milk.
Thank you dad. Danielle Love 2009 Show Not TellShow me so I can
compare it to the strength of a tree; let me smell it, taste it, feel
the energy around it. How will I know what you mean to teach if I can
only know through your words? Our educational systems reward the
mediocre not the passionate and yet we expect passion from those same
students. We will achieve the standards in education we yearn for when we recognize and admonish the creative mind. Danielle Love 2009 Watch the BirdieWells Fargo plays "Watch the Birdie" while they tangle the web with your unsuspecting faith in American. After months of playing the game, Wells Fargo says no new loan but takes the first payment. Mr. Jake Frahm loan manager of Wells Fargo denies a loan modification (pushing the payments to the end) because of disability income. This is illegal says Fair Housing of California; discriminatory on two counts: disability and source of income. Although Wells Fargo has been given an opportunity to mediation they have ignored the request. Fair Housing is forced to an investigation of Wells Fargo internal practices. This is not the first offense, in fact Wells Fargo investments has already been heavily fined and penalized for wrongful business practices by the state of California. Yet, this isn't the end of the story, greedy investors are fueling this denial. They have savored over the month of October hoping you too will succumb to the rage of the ARM loan increase. |

Danielle,
As we all change and move on, so do our family. It is never the same as we wish it could be, but cherish those moments as much as any as we never know what the next day will bring and we no longer can say the things we want. Take care. Rich
